Get to Know Us
Water sector sustainability leadership begins with a simple idea. Do the work carefully, listen well, stay curious, and notice how things connect. This mindset guides how Eddyline Strategies supports organizations working across water, climate, and energy.
David Ponder is a climate and sustainability consultant who helps water utilities and public agencies measure, reduce, and report greenhouse gas emissions. Through Eddyline Strategies, he works with utilities, local governments, and private companies on water, energy, and climate performance. He was lead author of the Water Sector Climate Emissions Reporting Guidelines, sponsored by the Water Research Foundation, which is the first comprehensive emissions reporting guidance for the water sector. As Director of Climate Action at the US Water Alliance, he led national work on greenhouse gas accounting and mitigation planning. Earlier, he spent nine years at the Metropolitan Council, leading GHG inventories, energy management, and renewable energy work, and was a lead author of its Climate Action Work Plan.
David is a Research Program Manager with Princeton University’s Water and Energy Technologies Lab at the Andlinger Center. He is a past chair of the Water Environment Federation’s Greenhouse Gas Focus Group and serves on Water Research Foundation advisory committees on methane and nitrous oxide. He speaks nationally on process emissions and net zero planning. A Minnesota resident, he holds a master’s in public administration from Appalachian State University.

More about Eddyline Strategies sustainability consulting
Eddyline Strategies sustainability consulting supports utilities, public agencies, and mission driven organizations that are working to align climate and energy goals with day to day operations. The work focuses on helping teams understand their emissions profile and identify realistic mitigation options. It also helps clients build the internal systems needed to sustain progress over time.
How our consulting approach works
David Ponder brings experience across research, policy, and utility practice to this work. He has led projects on greenhouse gas accounting, process emissions, embodied carbon, and net zero planning. As a result, he understands the constraints that public agencies and utilities face. This perspective allows Eddyline Strategies sustainability consulting to offer guidance that is technically rigorous and grounded in the realities of staffing, funding, and regulatory expectations.
The consulting approach emphasizes listening, clarity, and collaboration. Each engagement begins with an effort to understand existing plans, data, and internal dynamics. From there, Eddyline Strategies helps clients define priorities and develop a structured work plan. This sets the foundation for changes that build internal capacity rather than relying only on outside support.
This additional background helps explain how Eddyline Strategies sustainability consulting fits within the broader landscape of water sector decarbonization and climate action. It reflects a commitment to careful analysis, practical recommendations, and steady partnership. In turn, this supports organizations as they respond to evolving climate expectations and work toward credible and measurable results.
